Get There Challenge Employer Communications Toolkit

Tap into Oregon’s Get There Challenge Oct. 1-15 to boost employee engagement and retention, sustainability, and more!

The Get There Challenge is an annual competition to encourage people who live or work in Oregon to drive alone less and use transportation options more. Running for two-weeks, the Challenge is a timely reason to help make employee commutes and work experience better using commute options and remote work.

New this year, we’re changing things up to encourage some friendly competition by making the Get There Challenge team-based.

Teams will compete for recognition and prizes by logging trips taken by bike, foot, carpool, vanpool, and transit and remote work days.

Participants can join an already set-up community or worksite team or they can create a team of up to 10 co-workers, friends, and/or neighbors. We encourage worksites to set up a team (or multiple!) in advance for employees to join. See below for details.

Employer-specific FAQs about participating in the 2023 Get There Challenge can be found below. FAQs about general participation can be found here.

See the drop-downs below for ready-to-use content to encourage your employees to participate:

  • Email/newsletter content: let your employees know about the Challenge by tailoring and sending out pre-written emails.
  • Breakroom materials: spread the word through a printable poster/flyer and static TV slides.
  • Intranet/website content: publish grab-and-go content on your website or Intranet.
  • Photos & graphics: select from high-quality photos and graphics.
  • Videos: share/post promotional videos, plus instructional how-to participate videos.
  • Social media content: spread the word through social media channels. Create posts and/or share our posts on GetThereOregon’s Facebook or LinkedIn pages.

Looking to encourage and track employee participation and metrics? Set up a dedicated employer network in Get There Connect with a unique URL your employees can use to join. Network managers can use Get There Connect to directly communicate with employees and track organization-wide metrics. Email us at [email protected].

Participants creating teams can access our Team Captain Toolkit here to invite others to join their team and encourage them throughout the Get There Challenge.

Questions or have support needs/need help? Contact us at [email protected].

How can I create pre-set worksite teams for employees to join?

Employers can help create pre-set worksite teams for employees to join before the start of the Get There Challenge. One or more worksite teams can be created for your employees to join.

Each worksite team needs to be created by a different designated team captain (see steps below). You can serve as a team captain for one worksite team.

Teams must have at least two people to be eligible for statewide prizes, but we recommend teams with at least four members. You can have a maximum of 10 team members. Top team rankings will be normalized using a formula based on participation percentage to remove the size advantage of larger teams.

All teams will need a unique name. If desired, worksite team names can be used that reflect your organization and even different departments or work shifts.

If you have a dedicated employer network in Get There Connect, you can offer additional recognition and prizes to your worksite teams. Email [email protected] to set up a dedicated employer network and/or for help administering internal prizes.

If you’re not looking to help create pre-set worksite teams, then encourage employees to create their own teams or join a team (pre-set community teams will be created by Get There Oregon).

Here are the steps for team captains to use in creating a team:

  1. Create an account for free in Get There Connect or log into an existing account here
  2. Create your team
  3. Encourage coworkers and others to join your team and log commute option trips/remote work days during the Get There Challenge, Oct. 1-15 (see Team Captain Toolkit for resources)

How many worksite teams can be set up?
You can set up as many worksite teams as you’d like, but they must have a minimum of 2 members and maximum of 10. We recommend at least 4 members per team.

Can we keep worksite teams private/hidden so not just anyone can join?
No, but team captains can accept/deny team join requests.

How do I set up a dedicated employer network?
Email [email protected] and our team will help you set one up.

How do our employees join our dedicated employer network in Get there Connect?
Employees can search for the dedicated employer network upon registration, or once they’re logged in, they can click on their name in the upper right corner > Edit Profile > My Networks and search.

Can my organization offer internal recognition or prizes to our worksite teams and, if so, can Get There Connect be used for prize administration?
Yes, organizations can offer internal recognition or prizes to their worksite teams. Email [email protected] for help administering internal prizes.

Other questions or have support needs? Contact us at [email protected].

Let your employees know about the Challenge with this pre-written content. Just copy, paste, tailor (if desired) and use.
